How Do You Get Into the Duke University Marine Lab Program?

For the Summer 2024 sessions, the application process will begin on December 13, 2023. Applications are reviewed and accepted continuously as they are received. This rolling admissions process means that it’s beneficial for both parents and students to apply early.

Submitting your application sooner rather than later increases the likelihood of securing a spot in the program of your choice. Additionally, there’s no cost associated with applying, making it easier for interested candidates to apply.

How Do I Apply to Duke University Marine Lab Program?

Step 1: Selecting the Right Application

Firstly, you need to pick the appropriate application form based on the program you’re interested in. The options include:

  • Middle School Residential Program
  • High School Residential Program

For the Duke University Marine Lab program, you need to choose the Residential program options.

Duke Pre-College does not offer any transportation services to or from Beaufort, North Carolina. Therefore, a parent or guardian must take responsibility for bringing the student to the Duke University Marine Lab on the first day of the program.

Similarly, they must also ensure that the student is picked up from the Marine Lab when the program concludes, adhering to the specified departure time.

Step 2: Starting the Application Process

Once you’ve identified the correct program, click on the “Apply now” button to begin.

Step 3: Creating or Accessing Your Student Profile

For Returning Applicants: If you’ve applied to Duke Pre-College before, you already have an account. If you’ve forgotten your username or password, use the “Forgot Username” or “Forgot Password” links. For further assistance, contact Duke.

For New Applicants Under 18: If this is your first application and you are under 18, the account should be set up using your parent or guardian’s most frequently used email address. This email will be verified and used for setting a password. It’s the primary contact for program details, billing, and updates. The profile should include the student’s personal information, such as name, date of birth, and grade level.

Note on Student Email Addresses: You also need to provide a student email address that you check regularly. Avoid using your school email, as these can often block or mark emails as spam. This email will be essential for accessing Duke’s learning management system, Canvas, where you’ll find course materials, participate in online courses, and receive program updates.

Click on “Start the application”. Make sure to fill in all the required fields and attach any necessary documents. You can save your progress and return to complete the application at a later time by logging in with your username and password and selecting “My Applications”.

North Carolina Immunization Requirement: All participants must meet this to attend any Pre-College program. Failure to comply can result in the forfeiture of the $500 non-refundable fee. Students only missing the DTaP vaccine can receive it on campus for an additional $75 fee, to be paid along with the full program fees.

Once your application is complete, it will be reviewed. Given the large number of applications Duke Pre-College programs receive, please expect up to three weeks for a decision. To check the status of your application, you will need to revisit and log into the application portal.
