• Personal Statement: Craft a personal statement that is approximately 150-200 words in length. In this statement, express your motivation for wanting to attend the Sphinx Performance Academy.
• High-Resolution Headshot: Include a high-resolution headshot with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.
• Proof of Citizenship or Legal Residence: Upload a scanned copy of your birth certificate or another document that indicates your US citizenship or legal residence.
• No Registration Fee: The good news is that there’s no registration fee required to apply.

• Movement or Piece of Choice: Play a movement or piece of your choice, with or without piano accompaniment. The selection should be at least 2 minutes in length.
•  Additional Contrasting Movement or Piece of Choice: Perform another contrasting movement or piece of your choice, with or without piano accompaniment. Again, this selection should be at least 2 minutes in length.
• Personal Statement Video: In a few minutes, record a video in which you introduce yourself, explain how you heard about Sphinx, share your goals for attending the Sphinx Performance Academy, and provide any additional information about yourself that you’d like Sphinx to know.

It’s important to choose a repertoire that you’ve prepared well and that showcases your highest level of technique and musicality. Sphinx recommends that at least one of the two pieces of your choice include a concerto movement, but any piece, concert etude, or movement of a concerto or sonata will be accepted. Each video file should contain only one piece.

After being accepted into the SPA CIM program, participants will receive 1-2 excerpts from the standard quartet repertoire via email. You’ll need to prepare these excerpts and solo work for an audition on your arrival day. Following the placement auditions, students will be assigned to chamber music groups and repertoire.

SPA Juilliard

For those accepted into the SPA Juilliard program, you will receive 1-2 excerpts from the standard string orchestra repertoire via email.
