Cornell gives first-year applicants two routes in. Early Decision (ED) closes on November 1, 2026, and Regular Decision (RD) closes on January 2, 2027. Transfer and financial aid applications follow separate schedules with their own cutoffs.

This guide lays out every Cornell application deadline for the 2026–2027 cycle, covering both first-year routes, the transfer window, and all required financial aid forms. If you are applying to Cornell this year, bookmark this page.

When Is the Cornell Application Deadline?

Here are Cornell’s key deadlines for first-year applicants:

Early Decision November 1, 2026
Regular Decision January 2, 2027

Both deadlines cover only the application itself, the application fee, and any required portfolio or design supplement. Transcripts, recommendations, and other supporting materials follow on a later deadline specific to each round.

Transfer students and financial aid applicants file on separate timelines covered later in this guide.

Cornell Early Decision deadline

Your Cornell ED application, fee or fee waiver, and any portfolio or design supplement must be in by November 1, 2026. All other supporting materials, including transcripts and letters of recommendation, are due by November 13.

The Common App opens on August 1, 2026, giving you about three months to prepare your materials. Decisions come out in mid-December, and admitted students have until May 2, 2027 to submit their enrollment deposit.

ED at Cornell is binding. If you are admitted, you must enroll and withdraw all other college applications. If Cornell defers your application, it moves into the RD pool for a second review. If you are denied, you will not be reconsidered in the regular round.

Cornell Regular Decision deadline

Cornell’s RD deadline is January 2, 2027. The same August 1 Common App opening applies, and the supporting materials deadline for this round is January 19. Decisions arrive in late March, and admitted students have until May 2, 2027 to accept or decline their offer.

RD is non-binding. You can apply to as many other schools as you want through any round while your Cornell application is under review.

Cornell releases ED results in mid-December and RD results in late March. For a full breakdown of notification dates and what to expect while you wait, see our guide on when Cornell decisions come out.

Cornell Transfer Application Deadline

Cornell’s transfer application deadline is March 15, 2027. Your application, fee or fee waiver, and any required portfolio or design supplement must be submitted by that date. All other required materials are due by April 15.

Transfer decisions release on a rolling basis from late April through June.

Cornell only admits transfer students for fall semester enrollment.

Cornell Financial Aid Application Deadline

Cornell’s financial aid deadlines run on a separate schedule from the application deadlines. Two forms are required: the CSS Profile and the FAFSA.

Application Round Financial Aid Deadline
Early Decision November 15, 2026
Regular Decision February 15, 2027
Transfer March 15, 2027

Cornell is need-blind for domestic applicants, so filing late will not hurt your admissions chances. It can, however, hold up your aid estimate or lower what you ultimately receive. The safest move is to have both forms ready to submit within days of your application.

Beat Cornell’s Application Deadline with Expert Help

Tracking every Cornell application deadline is the easy part, but pulling together a complete application before each one arrives is where the pressure builds. Essays, recommendations, test scores, financial aid forms, and college-specific supplements all compete for your attention on overlapping timelines.

AdmissionSight’s Standard College Counseling program matches you with an advisor who works with you across the full application cycle. That covers school list strategy, essay development, application review, and deadline management from start to finish.

If full-cycle support is more than you need, Ad Hoc Consulting gives you access to focused, one-off sessions. You might use it for a final essay review a week before your submission date, a second opinion on your activity list, or a check on your financial aid forms before the priority deadline passes.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What if I miss the Cornell application deadline?

Cornell does not accept late applications. If you miss the November 1 ED deadline, you can still apply through RD by January 2. If you miss the RD deadline, you will need to wait until the next cycle opens the following August.

2. Can I apply to other schools if I choose Cornell Early Decision?

You can submit RD applications to other schools while waiting for your Cornell ED result. What you cannot do is apply early to another private college at the same time. If Cornell admits you in mid-December, you are required to enroll and must immediately withdraw all other pending applications.

3. Can I request a Cornell application deadline extension?

No. Cornell does not grant individual extensions on any application deadline. If you are worried about finishing on time, plan to submit a few days early so that technical problems or missing documents do not cost you your spot.

4. When is the Cornell financial aid deadline?

The CSS Profile and FAFSA are both due by November 15, 2026 for ED applicants and February 15, 2027 for RD applicants. Transfer applicants must file by March 15, 2027.

5. When is the Cornell transfer application deadline?

Cornell’s transfer deadline is March 15, 2027 for the application, fee, and any required portfolio or design supplement. Supporting materials are due by April 15.
