Tufts’s application deadline is November 2 for Early Decision I (ED I) and January 4 for both Early Decision II (ED II) and Regular Decision (RD). Transfer students and financial aid filers, meanwhile, follow separate calendars, and some aid cutoffs land weeks after the application itself closes. Missing a single date can cost you a spot in your chosen round or stall your aid review.

If you’re planning to apply to Tufts, this guide covers every application deadline for the 2026-2027 cycle. You will find the three first-year dates, the transfer cutoff, and each financial aid due date.

When Is the Tufts Application Deadline?

Tufts accepts first-year applications in three rounds:

Application Route Deadline
Early Decision I November 2, 2026
Early Decision II January 4, 2027
Regular Decision January 4, 2027

Source: Tufts Undergraduate Admissions

All three apply to first-year applicants only, while transfer and aid deadlines run on their own schedules covered later in this guide.

Tufts Early Decision deadline

Tufts ED I closes on November 2, 2026, and ED II closes on January 4, 2027. The Common App opens on August 1, 2026, so you have three months of lead time for ED I and five months for ED II.

Both rounds are binding. If Tufts admits you, you agree to enroll and to withdraw every other application. Because of that, filing an ED application at a second college in the same round is off the table.

Your timeline should decide between the two. ED I fits you if your essays, recommendations, and activity descriptions are finished by early November. ED II gives you the fall term to raise your grades or settle on Tufts as your first choice. Since ED II closes on the same day as RD, the only real difference between them is the commitment you make.

Tufts Regular Decision deadline

The Tufts RD deadline is January 4, 2027. RD carries no binding agreement, so you can apply to as many other colleges as you like in any round and compare offers later.

The later date helps if you want first-semester senior grades on your transcript or plan to send new test scores. You also get extra weeks to revise the Tufts supplemental essays.

Once your application is in, the next question is when Tufts will respond. Our guide on when Tufts decisions come out breaks down the release timeline for every application route.

Tufts Transfer Application Deadline

The Tufts transfer application deadline is March 15, 2027. Applicants to the BFA and BFA+BA/BS programs get one extra week, with the visual art portfolio due March 22, 2027.

After you submit, you upload a mid-term report through the applicant portal between March 15 and April 5, 2027.

Tufts admits transfer students for the fall semester only. It offers no spring or January entry, and admitted transfers cannot defer their start date.

Tufts Financial Aid Application Deadline

Tufts sets financial aid deadlines by application round, and each round has two cutoffs:

Application Round FAFSA and CSS Profile IDOC Tax Documents
Early Decision I November 16, 2026 December 1, 2026
Early Decision II January 15, 2027 February 1, 2027
Regular Decision February 1, 2027 February 15, 2027
Transfer April 1, 2027 April 15, 2027

Tufts does not accept financial aid documents by email and cannot review your file until it receives all required forms. Since documents take about three business days to upload after Tufts receives your Common App, submit your application early enough to allow time for processing before each financial aid deadline.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What if I miss the Tufts application deadline?

If you miss the November 2 ED I date, you can still apply through ED II or RD on January 4. If you miss the January 4 date, you will have to wait for the next application cycle.

2. Can I apply to other schools if I choose Tufts Early Decision?

You cannot apply through a binding program at another college in the same round. Non-binding applications elsewhere are generally allowed, but if Tufts admits you, you must withdraw them.

3. Can I request a Tufts application deadline extension?

Tufts does not list an extension process, so submit your application a few days early to address technical issues or missing documents.

4. When is the Tufts financial aid deadline?

It depends on your round. ED I applicants file the FAFSA and CSS Profile by November 16, 2026 and upload tax documents by December 1. ED II applicants file by January 15, 2027, with documents due February 1. RD applicants file by February 1, with documents due February 15.

5. When is the Tufts transfer application deadline?

The Tufts transfer deadline is March 15, 2027. Tufts accepts transfer students for the fall semester only, and BFA portfolio materials are due March 22, 2027. Transfer aid forms are due April 1, with tax documents due April 15.
