Caltech’s application deadlines are November 1 for Restrictive Early Action (REA) and January 4 for Regular Decision (RD). Deadlines for transfer and financial aid applications are on different dates. Missing any of the deadlines can cost you a chance to be part of Caltech’s incoming class or be granted higher aid.
So, more than knowing the requirements and putting together a strong profile, applying to Caltech is also about being aware of deadlines. In this blog, we’ll give you Caltech’s deadlines for first-years, transfers, and financial aid for the 2026-2027 admissions cycle.

When Is the Caltech Application Deadline?
First-year applicants can apply to Caltech through two different routes with their own deadlines:
| Application Route | Deadline |
| Restrictive Early Action | November 1, 2026 |
| Regular Decision | January 4, 2027 |

The dates above apply only to first-year applicants. Dates for transfer and financial aid applicants will be covered later in this blog.
Caltech Restrictive Early Action deadline
Caltech’s REA deadline is November 1, but you have until November 6 to submit required and supplemental materials, and until November 30 to complete standardized testing. Results come out in mid-December.
REA is non-binding, so those who are accepted in this round still have until May 1 to make their decision. Deferred applications will get a second review in the RD pool.
Caltech Regular Decision deadline
Caltech’s RD deadline is January 4. Applicants have until January 10 to submit other required and supplemental materials, and until December 31, 2026 to complete standardized testing. Results are released in mid-March. Accepted students have until May 1 to reply.
If you’re applying through Caltech’s RD route, you can also apply to as many other colleges as you want and keep your college options open so you can compare offers when all decisions are released.

Caltech Transfer Application Deadline
Caltech’s transfer application deadline is February 1, 2027. Applicants will also be required to take a physics and math exam since Caltech wants to test them on their mastery of material covered in Caltech’s first year Core Curriculum. These exams are due on February 15.
Transfer decisions are released in mid-April, and accepted students must reply by June 1.
Caltech Financial Aid Application Deadline
The Caltech financial aid deadline you should meet depends on the application round you are in:
| Application Round | Priority Deadline | Hard Deadline |
| Restrictive Early Action | December 15, 2026 | November 20, 2027 |
| Regular Decision | March 16, 2027 | November 20, 2027 |

Caltech says that submitting your application after the priority deadlines doesn’t mean you’ll receive less aid, but it will take longer for you to receive your decision. However, missing the hard deadlines means you won’t receive any aid.
