STUDENTS WITH THE RICHEST STUDENTS

Middlebury College offered admission to 2,000 students in the Class of 2030 from a pool of 11,458 applicants, resulting in an acceptance rate of 17.46%.

For the Class of 2030, Early Decision (ED) I and II results were released in mid-December 2025 and mid-February 2026, respectively, and Regular Decision (RD) results were released in late March 2026. However, Middlebury has not yet published detailed applicant, admission, or acceptance rate data for any of these admission rounds. Those figures will likely become available when the college releases its next Common Data Set.

In this blog, we’ll examine Middlebury’s overall, early, regular, transfer, and waitlist acceptance rates and explore how admissions trends have evolved over time.

Middlebury College Acceptance Rates

Middlebury’s acceptance rate increased to 17.46% for the Classes of 2030, up from 12.77% for the Class of 2029. The increase was driven by both a decline in applications and a larger number of admission offers, with applications falling from 11,831 to 11,458 and admitted students rising from 1,511 to 2,000.

However, Middlebury’s acceptance rate has varied significantly over the past decade, ranging from a high of 22.04% for the Class of 2024 to a low of 10.37% for the Class of 2027. Here’s the complete picture:

Note: Class of 2030 data comes from official admissions announcements, while data for Classes of 2021 through 2029 has been compiled from Middlebury’s Common Data Set.

Applications to Middlebury increased from 8,909 for the Class of 2021 to a peak of 13,297 for the Class of 2027. The sharp rise began after Middlebury adopted a test-optional admissions policy for the 2020-2021 admissions cycle, a change that likely expanded the applicant pool. Applications have since declined to 11,458 for the Class of 2030.

Meanwhile, the number of admitted students fluctuated between 1,348 and 2,022 during this period. As applications rose and admission offers became limited, Middlebury’s acceptance rate fell from 17.10% for the Class of 2021 to a record low of 10.37% for the Class of 2027.

Although the acceptance rate remained below 13% through the Class of 2029, it rebounded sharply to 17.46% for the Class of 2030 as applications declined and the college admitted nearly 500 more students than the previous year.

Middlebury College Early Decision Acceptance Rate

Middlebury has not yet released Early Decision applicant or admission data for the Class of 2030. The most recent figures available come from the Class of 2029, when the college received 1,179 ED applications and admitted 460 students, resulting in an ED acceptance rate of 39.02%.

Middlebury Early Decision acceptance rate trends

Middlebury’s ED acceptance rate has generally declined over the past decade, falling from 48.32% for the Class of 2021 to 39.02% for the Class of 2029. Here’s a closer look at the trend:

Note: All data has been sourced from Middlebury’s Common Data Set. Middlebury notes that its Early Decision figures for the Classes of 2027 and 2028 exclude February-entry students. However, because the college does not publicly release separate ED I and ED II statistics, these figures provide the closest available estimate of its combined Early Decision admission rates.

ED applications to Middlebury increased from 834 for the Class of 2021 to a peak of 1,341 for the Class of 2028 before declining to 1,179 for the Class of 2029. Over the same period, the number of students admitted through ED remained relatively stable, ranging from 372 to 460.

As a result, Middlebury’s ED acceptance rate fell from 48.32% for the Class of 2021 to a low of 30.50% for the Class of 2028 before rebounding to 39.02% for the Class of 2029. Throughout this period, ED acceptance rates remained significantly higher than those in the regular admissions cycle.

Middlebury Regular Decision Acceptance Rate

Middlebury has not yet released Regular Decision applicant or admission data for the Class of 2030. The most recent figures available come from the Class of 2029, when the college received 10,652 RD applications and admitted 1,051 students, resulting in an RD acceptance rate of 9.87%.

Compared with ED applicants, students applying through the RD round have historically faced significantly lower admission rates.

Middlebury Regular Decision acceptance rate trends

Middlebury’s RD acceptance rate has generally declined over the past decade, falling from 13.87% for the Class of 2021 to 9.87% for the Class of 2029. Here’s a closer look at the trend:

Note: RD figures are estimates derived by subtracting ED data from overall totals in Middlebury’s Common Data Set.

RD applications increased from 8,075 for the Class of 2021 to a peak of 12,039 for the Class of 2027 before declining to 10,652 for the Class of 2029. Meanwhile, the number of students admitted through the RD round fluctuated considerably, ranging from 939 to 1,630. As applications increased, Middlebury’s RD acceptance rate fell from 13.87% for the Class of 2021 to a low of 7.90% for the Class of 2027 before rebounding to 9.87% for the Class of 2029.

Middlebury Transfer Acceptance Rate

The most recent available Middlebury transfer data comes from Fall 2025, with an acceptance rate of 14.81%. Here’s the breakdown:

Note: Fall 2025 transfer data is from Middlebury’s Common Data Set for 2025-2026, the same reporting year that includes Class of 2029 first-year admissions data.

Transfer admission to Middlebury remains competitive, but relatively more attainable than first-year admission, which was 12.77% for the Class of 2029, the same Class as the table above.

Middlebury Waitlist Acceptance Rate

The most recent waitlist data comes from the Class of 2029, when Middlebury admitted just 5.80% of students from the waitlist. Here’s the breakdown:

Waitlisted

1,996 1,878 109

5.80%

Note: The waitlist data is sourced from Middlebury’s Common Data Set for 2025-2026, the same reporting year that includes Class of 2029 first-year admissions data.

Waitlist admission rates can vary significantly from year to year depending on enrollment needs and how many admitted first-year and transfer students choose to attend. Middlebury typically turns to its waitlist only after it knows how many spots remain in the incoming class, so admission from the waitlist is never guaranteed.
