When Is the MIT Application Deadline?

MIT has two application routes and deadlines for first-year applications:

Transfer applications and applications for financial aid have different deadlines, which we’ll also cover later in this blog.

MIT Early Action deadline

MIT’s EA deadline is November 1, 2026. The school doesn’t accept the Common App or Coalition. Instead, you have to apply directly through the MIT Application Portal, which opens mid-August.

EA decisions are released in mid-December. If you’re admitted, you’ll still have until May 1 to make a decision. If you’re deferred, it means your application has been moved into the RD pool for the second review. If you’re admitted from the RD pool, you’ll also have until May 1 to respond.

Regardless of whether you’ve been admitted or deferred, you’ll have to submit the February Updates & Notes (FUN) Form with midyear grades (if available) by mid-February 2027.

MIT Regular Action deadline

MIT’s RA deadline is January 5, 2027. You’ll receive a decision in mid-March, and if admitted, you can respond until May 1.

Similar to EA admits and deferred students, RA applicants are required to submit the MIT FUN Form and midyear grades by mid-February.

MIT Transfer Application Deadline

MIT accepts transfer students for the spring and fall semesters:

Only U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents are eligible to apply for Spring Entry, while Fall Entry is open to all eligible transfer applicants.

MIT Financial Aid Application Deadline

MIT’s financial aid deadlines depend on your application route since your financial aid deadline comes a few days after the application deadline:

To apply for financial aid, all students are required to submit the CSS Profile and IDOC. Domestic students also need to submit the FAFSA.

MIT accepts late aid applications as long as they’re submitted before the end of the academic year to be considered. However, submitting late delays your aid offer and might also reduce the amount you receive.
