What are the current Cornell deadlines for admission? First-year applicants have the opportunity to submit their applications early through Cornell’s Early Decision program. It is essential to keep in mind that submitting an application for Early Decision constitutes a commitment. You are only allowed to submit an Early Decision application to one college or institution, however, students who submit an Early Decision application are still eligible to submit applications to other early admissions programs that are not legally obligatory.

Students who wish to apply for Early Decision should be aware that they can only submit an Early Decision application to one school. Students are “obligated” to attend school if they are admitted. Students who apply to schools using the Early Decision plan are not restricted from applying to other schools using the Early Action plan. This is because Early Action schools are not normally binding.

If a student is admitted to a school through the Early Decision program, they are required to withdraw their applications to any other schools using the Regular Decision process as well as any Early Action applications they may have submitted. If you are offered admission to Cornell, you are required to withdraw any applications you have already submitted to other colleges or universities and to submit a notice of commitment along with the enrollment deposit in the month of January.

Based on the Cornell deadlines, after submitting your Early Decision application to Cornell, you will either be admitted, refused, or delayed to the Regular Decision review process depending on the outcome of the evaluation. You are not permitted to apply to Cornell University as a Regular Decision applicant if you have previously been denied admission as an Early Decision applicant. Furthermore, students who have been denied admission from one Cornell college or school are not permitted to apply to any other Cornell college or school.

Early decision acceptances to Cornell are considered final and non-negotiable; however, students may be entitled to be freed from the early decision agreement if the financial aid offer does not make a Cornell education possible for applicants and their families (must have applied for financial aid).

Does everyone get Cornell Interview? With the exception of the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning, admission to any of Cornell’s undergraduate-level programs does not necessitate (and does not even offer) a personal interview with the applicant (AAP). Any student who is interested in enrolling in this college’s Architecture department must first participate in a personal interview. Applicants who are interested in working in the Department of Art or the Department of Urban and Regional Studies are strongly invited, but not needed, to participate in a personal interview.

First-year candidates to any college or school at Cornell have the option of requesting an informational meeting with an alumni admissions ambassador in their local region. These meetings are not interviews for admissions purposes. This casual talk with a member of our Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network (CAAAN) is offered as an extra avenue for applicants to learn about Cornell. Although it is not necessary, applicants are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.

Does Cornell require SAT for 2022? Undergraduate applicants to Cornell who submit their applications during either of the following two admissions seasons will not be required to submit their test scores.

In September of 2021, the undergraduate admissions office released an announcement that the University will be waiving the SAT and ACT requirements for first-year applicants beginning in the fall of 2023 and fall of 2024. This decision was made in response to persisting COVID-19 threats. The SAT and/or ACT exam requirement that was formerly in place for applicants to Cornell in the years 2022, 2023, and 2024 has been removed.

As a result of the pandemic emergency caused by SARS-COV-2, some SAT and ACT testing sessions have been canceled. As a result of this exceptional scenario, prospective candidates who wish to enroll at Cornell University beginning in August 2022 may submit their applications without including the results of the ACT or SAT exams in their supporting documentation. This will be the case throughout both the Early Decision round of review as well as the Regular Decision round.

Do not feel that you need to take tests unless you are able to take the exam locally, close to where you live, and you feel safe doing so. This advice applies to all applicants for current and future terms. To refresh your memory, Cornell will consider your application even if you have not taken any standardized tests.

Please ensure that you always follow the local, state, and national COVID-19 rules at all times for the sake of your health and safety. After becoming the first university in the Ivy League to do away with SAT and ACT requirements for first-year students in any of Cornell’s seven colleges in April 2020, this policy is a direct result of that decision.

In general, Cornell does not intend to implement a test-optional admission policy in the long-term for applicants who have already taken the ACT or SAT, or who have the opportunity to do so. Cornell has anticipated, as appears to be the case at test-optional colleges and universities, that a large number of students who will have had reasonable and uninterrupted opportunities to take the ACT and/or SAT during the 2020-2021 administration will continue to submit results, and those results will continue to demonstrate preparation for college-level work. This is consistent with what appears to be the case at test-optional colleges and universities.

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, and the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning will not accept standardized exam scores going forward as a result of this policy. It is the policy of the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, the College of Engineering, and the College of Human Ecology, in addition to the School of Industrial and Labor Relations, to not require students to submit their SAT or ACT scores for admission consideration.

Students have the option of not turning in their test results, even if they have taken the exam more than once. This option is available to students who have already taken the exam. The University strongly recommends that applicants prioritize their own health and safety over any testing concerns they may have.

The majority of schools require students to take either the SAT or the ACT, and many also require students to take SAT topic examinations.
