Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

Students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens, have extraordinary financial needs, and are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant may be eligible for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG). At Cornell, the maximum sum that can be awarded under the FSEOG is $4,000.

Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship

Students are eligible for the Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship if they are either currently enrolled and have a parent or guardian who died in the line of duty as a public safety officer, or if they were enrolled at an institution at the time of their parent or guardian’s death and have a parent or guardian who died in the line of duty as a public safety officer.

NYS Excelsior Program

Undergraduate students who are citizens of the United States and residents of New York state and who are enrolled in one of the public schools or universities in New York state are eligible for the Excelsior Scholarship, which offers a maximum award of $5,500 and is paid for by the state.

This includes the College of Human Ecology, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University. The Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management is a shared school between the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

The qualifications for eligibility include having to be a resident of New York state, meeting certain income standards, and carrying a certain course load while attending school.

Students are required to graduate on time and maintain residency and employment in the state of New York after graduation for the same number of years that they are granted the Excelsior award; otherwise, the amount of the award will be converted into a loan that needs to be returned.

Empire State Diversity Honors Scholarship

Candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds are eligible to receive scholarship funding through the Empire State Diversity Honors Scholarship (ESDHS) Program. Eligible students are those who will contribute to the diversity of the student body on their campus or in their academic program.

Students who can demonstrate a significant financial need are eligible for a portion of the little assistance that is available. The recipients are chosen with the assistance of the Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives.

Outside Scholarships

Many students are receiving notices from outside private and non-profit institutions, firms, or organizations that they have been selected to receive scholarships and/or tuition assistance. These funds are distributed through the Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment, which serves as the clearinghouse.

The beginning loan and work component of a student’s financial aid package will be reduced if the student receives additional scholarships or tuition advantages from outside sources. These funds can also be utilized to replace the usual student payment that is required by Cornell.

Any remaining funds will result in a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the amount of Cornell Grant assistance you get in the event that your entire starting loan and work in your financial aid offer is canceled after your student contribution has been replaced.
