USC Deadlines

What are the current USC deadlines for admission? Early Action for most majors, which also includes consideration for merit scholarships, was just recently made available by the University of Southern California. Early Action at the University of Southern California is neither binding nor limiting. 

Early action is a nonbinding admissions process that allows students to apply to college earlier than the standard deadline, which is often in November of the senior year. Students who take part in early action do not have to pay an application fee. Students are notified of their admission status based on the USC deadlines in December, and even if they are approved, they are under no obligation to enroll.

Early Action

Applicants selecting Early Action will be notified of their admission or deferral to Regular Decision in mid-to-late January 2023.

Early Action is not binding, it does not restrict applicants in any way, and it is not accessible for majors that need a portfolio or an audition. Applicants to the EA program will have their USC Merit Scholarship applications reviewed.

Financial Aid

• Early Application Deadline: January 9, 2023
• Regular Decision Deadline: February 10, 2023

Applicants who want to be considered for need-based financial aid must submit the FAFSA and CSS Profile applications by the appropriate deadline.

Undocumented or DACA students should submit their 2020 tax return and the third-party letter confirming undocumented status instead of the FAFSA.

The application deadline for the Cal Grant is on March 2, 2023.

Residents of California have until this date to submit their applications for Cal Grants.

Transfer Application Deadlines

Regular Decision

By the end of May, prospective transfer students will have either received an admission decision or been asked to submit spring grades. In the event that your spring grades are requested, you will be notified of a decision regarding your admission by the middle of July.

For certain majors, submitting a portfolio or having an audition is required.

The deadline for applications is December 1, 2022.

This is the last day transfer students can apply to the following programs before the deadline passes:

• Iovine and Young Academy
• Kaufman School of Dance
• School of Cinematic Arts – BFA programs only
• School of Dramatic Arts – BFA programs only
• Thornton School of Music

For every other type of major, the deadline for applications will be on February 15, 2023

Financial Aid for Transfer Applicants

The deadline for priority applications is on March 2, 2023.

If applicants want their applications to be considered for need-based financial aid, they have until this date to submit both the FAFSA and the CSS Profile.

Residents of California are encouraged to submit their applications for Cal Grants by the given deadline.

Students who are either undocumented or have DACA should submit their tax return for the year 2020 along with a letter from a third party verifying their undocumented status rather than the FAFSA.

Therefore, it should not come as a surprise that based on the USC deadlines for early action at USC is November 1. This indicates that you are free to submit an application to USC and, if admitted, choose whether or not you will attend the university.
